“There is something about the outside of a horse that's good for the inside of a man”
“The bastards couldn’t kill me. I’ve been through so much physical and emotional pain. I would say that suffering has been a constant companion of mine. However, the worse pain of all was the loss of a brotherhood and the most amazing job in the world.
The physical and mental toughness that allowed me to obtain the title of recon marine has kept me going through all of this.
Most importantly I REGRET NOTHING. I AM PROUD OF MY SERVICE AND TO BE A UNITED STATES MARINE.”
-Jonathan Blank
On October 26, 2010, just four days out from completing his deployment, Jonathon was severely injured by an I.E.D. while conducting a reconnaissance mission in Afghanistan. He sustained shrapnel wounds to his left arm and head. The blast severed both of his legs. After the explosion, the Taliban began attacking the helicopter, knowing full well the amount of trouble he was in, Jonathan tried to remain calm before everything went white.
Having undergone well over 60 surgeries, Jonathan continues to suffer from severe chronic pain, crippling insomnia, PTSD, and migraines yet his positive outlook on life remains inspirational to all around him.
As a child Jonathon and his siblings had horses and rode often. As an adult when able to ride Jonathan enjoys it tremendously. His dream, to own a horse of his own. With stables very close to his home in Utah, the idea of being able to freely ride throughout the week is one Jonathan sees as freeing and therapeutic. Being able to enjoy the outdoors, the wilderness, hunt and explore on a horse is something Jon knows will help him.
Our goal is currently to raise $10,000.00 to get a the perfect therapeutic horse for Jonathan. A horse he can take trial riding, and on hunting trips. This price includes the horse, additional training, and transportation. The stables have been arranged and all gear . In 2022 Jon and Platoon 22 began working together to find the perfect horse. After 6 months. countless trips, meetings, and heartbreaks, Jon finally found the perfect match.
Despite the difficult situation, Jonathan was unwilling to let his injuries stand in his way. Jonathan loves the outdoors, skis, hunts, sky dives, – you name it, he lives for adventure. He finds peace and happiness when he is in nature.
Jonathan won’t ever call himself a hero, he’s humble beyond belief and his kindness is unlike any. As we at Platoon 22 have gotten to know Jonathan we have come to realize how selfless and inspiring he is. He is the first to offer his assistance with anything, he continuously shows compassion and thoughtfulness to all who he meets.
We are very excited to help this veteran find happiness and peace with his perfect pallomino horse Hitch.
We ask all to consider contributing to this incredible initiative
